ACE grants on the cards for trainees

Applications have opened for the 2019 ACT Adult Community Education (ACE) Grants program.

The program helps Canberrans who may be facing barriers to getting a job, by giving them the skills they need to succeed.

ACE grants are available to not-for-profit organisations who then work with people through traineeships, apprenticeships or other work-related training, leading to long-term career opportunities.

MLA, Bec Cody, representing the Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, said the program had been refreshed to further strengthen adult community education opportunities and support better outcomes for participants.

“We know there is a need for skilled workers here in Canberra, so by making pathways easier we can fill that skills gap by helping more people get into the workforce and develop long-term, fulfilling careers,” Ms Cody said.

“Last year up to 500 people were supported to get into the workforce through the ACE grants program.”

She said the projects supported by the grants help to improve access to work-related learning for Canberrans who faced complex barriers to participation in further education or work.

She said the barriers might include people with disability, parents returning to the workforce, young people at risk, mature aged people, and those without post-school qualifications.

“The new-look ACE grants program introduces two-year funding arrangements, improving funding security for service providers and enhancing their ability to support participants on the often long journey to gaining the confidence, skills and work experience they need to find jobs,” Ms Cody said.

Applications close on 3 April and the guidelines and application form for the 2019 Adult Community Education Grants can be accessed at this PS News Link.
