The Commissioner for Children and Young People WA has invited young people to take part in a Girls’ Wellbeing Project Survey.

Jacqueline McGowan-Jones said the short survey focused on three main issues of self-esteem, belongingness and gender inequality.

“All young people (girls, boys, gender-diverse) aged between 12 and 24 are encouraged to share their views and experiences around these topics, and what we can do to better support them,” Ms McGowan-Jones (pictured ) said.

“All responses will be anonymous and used only in resources produced by the Commission.”

She said the 2021 Speaking Out Survey had revealed a difference in the way girls and boys rated their health and wellbeing.

“We would like to find out more, so that we can determine ways to better support and listen to girls and young women throughout Western Australia,” Ms McGowan-Jones said.

“All young people have the right to feel safe, confident, capable, and listened to,” she said.

“Your responses will help us understand why many girls in WA don’t feel happy and secure, so we can work to fix this.”

Ms McGowan-Jones said that based on the responses, the Commission would publish a report on young people’s views on these topics and continue to push for positive change.
