A District Officer from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and three State Emergency Service volunteers have been in New South Wales for the past week supporting communities impacted by the latest floods which devastated the heavily rain fallen State.

Members of an Incident Management Team, the four answered a request from the NSW State Emergency Service for personnel with expertise in coordinating field operations and have been playing a major role operating alongside their NSW equivalents dealing with emergencies since.

Thanking the four for putting their hands up to cross the continent at short notice,

Acting Minister for Emergency Services, Paul Papalia said they went to help NSW deal with its natural disaster which has ravaged the State with floods for a fair part of 2022.

“New South Wales is again facing extreme challenges with flooding wreaking havoc on communities, while posing significant challenges for local emergency services,” Mr Papalia said.

“Western Australia has once again answered the call for help and will assist those affected during this difficult time,” he said.

“I thank each of our emergency services specialists.

“They are extraordinary people who are driven to protect communities in emergency situations like this and I wish them a safe deployment.”

Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner, Darren Klemm said WA’s emergency services personnel were renowned Australia wide for their expertise.

“Resource sharing is critical when natural disasters strike and we will continue to offer as much support as is needed,” Commissioner Klemm said.

“This is an opportunity for us to provide assistance after WA received support from our east coast partners in the aftermath of Cyclone Seroja and several major bushfires in the past 18 months,” he said.

Commissioner Klemm said more than 70 WA emergency services personnel were deployed to NSW earlier this year to assist impacted communities.
