ACT Fire & Rescue (ACTF&R) has launched a recruitment drive to find the next generation of Canberra’s firefighters who will join the brigade in 2023.
Backing the move, Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman praised Canberra’s firefighters who played a critical role in the safety of the local community.
“Firefighters are there for Canberrans during disasters big and small, from the 2020 bushfires to the Belconnen supercell storm, house fires, vehicle collisions, animal rescues and much more,” Mr Gentleman said.
“As Canberra continues to grow, so too does the need for emergency services.”
ACTF&R Chief Officer Matthew Mavity said applicants from a broad range of backgrounds were all welcomed.
Chief Officer Mavity encouraged people who may not have considered a career with ACTF&R to learn more about the opportunity.
“Becoming a firefighter is hard but the reward of helping the community in times of hardship is definitely worth the effort,” Chief Officer Mavity said.
“If you care for the community and have an interest in helping others, we welcome your application.”
Releasing an information booklet for hopeful applicants, ACTF&R said being a firefighter was no ordinary job: “the work is varied, challenging and rewarding.”
It said information on its recruitment website would help people better understand the role of a firefighter, the key requirements of the role and the recruitment process.
“We encourage all women and men to use this information to prepare for the recruitment process and to maximise your potential for successful employment,” ACTF&R said.
The Service said additional information on the recruitment process could be found in its ACT Fire & Rescue: Applicant Information booklet and by watching recorded information sessions on its website.
ADTF&R’s 17-page information booklet can be accessed at this PS News link and its recruitment website at this link.
