The Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy (CHDE) says it is continuing to respond to housing challenges created by the recent rainfall and flooding.
“We acknowledge the commitment of all frontline workers who are working with impacted households to identify and respond to their individual and emergent needs,” the Department said in a statement.
“We also recognise the strong service and support networks that are available and the need for continued coordination through existing networks to deliver person-centred and place-based responses,” it said.
The CHDE said the release of a package of responses enhanced “the work we are already doing to address housing need and homelessness through the Queensland Government Recovery Hubs and Housing Service Centres”.
“Anyone in need of emergency accommodation can access assistance at their local Housing Service Centre,” it said.
“People with disability and people experiencing homelessness or domestic family violence can access accommodation solutions with appropriate support based on individual and household needs.”
The Department said local housing markets were likely to be further affected by the rain and floods.
“We are considering all options for increasing access to housing supply, with a focus on ensuring people are suitably accommodated,” it said.
The CHDE said these efforts included working with local hotel and motel partners; exploring the capacity of previous quarantine accommodation and the quarantine facility at Wellcamp; and securing offers from the private sector.
