Those of you who have been long time readers of this column will know that I’m partial to a bit of rockabilly and Kristofer Dommin & The Oztones fit the bill nicely.

Their line-up consists of Kristofer Dommin, originally from Los Angeles, on lead vocals and guitar and he’s teamed up with The Oztones from Brisbane who are comprised of Dale Berends on upright bass, Danny Lowrie on lead guitar, and drummer Jot Garrott.

Ain’t Right is the first single from their up-coming debut album, which is set for release this month and it’s already been followed by the second single No Destination.

If these tracks are anything to go by then the album should be a cracker.

Ain’t Right is your classic piece of rockabilly driven along by an incredible slap bass and drum underpinning that’ll have you losing control of your foot.

I found it nearly impossible to keep still.

Danny Lowrie wrings all the right licks out of his Gretch guitar and Kristofer’s crooning baritone tops the whole lot off beautifully.

There’s shades of Elvis and Shakin’ Stevens in the vocal and the whole combo put out a rockabilly rhythm to rival anything the masters of the genre (The Stray Cats) could achieve.

The singles have been picked up by community radio stations around Australia, which is not surprising given their quality.

Kristofer Dommin has been around since 2010 fronting his own hard rock band in the US which saw him play the North American and European festival circuits, including Download in the UK.

He even made it to our shores where he graced the Soundwave stage.

Now domiciled in Australia, he has several projects on the go including working with the Oztones and releasing his solo material.

There are some good clips of Kristofer Dommin & The Oztones on YouTube.

Look the boys up.

I’m eagerly awaiting the album, in the meantime I’ll give these singles many a spin.
