Doing my usual skip through the many singles that come my way I discovered Jason Gould’s track I Go Crazy.
My usual practise is to listen to approximately 30 seconds of each song.
Occasionally something grabs my attention and I listen to the entire track, that was the case with this track.
I Go Crazy is a catchy pop song with all the necessary elements to make it a success.
There’s an interesting sparse intro and hooks galore, some excellent production and Jason has a good voice.
I had no idea who Jason Gould was, so I looked him up and discovered that he is Barbra Streisand and Elliot Gould’s son.
He’s tried his hand at both singing and acting, making his film debut as a child in Up the Sandbox (1972), but he seems to have settled on music.
He performed with his mother during her Greatest Hits Tour in 2012 singing a duet of the Irving Berlin standard How Deep is the Ocean toward the end of each show.
In 2017 Jason released his debut album Dangerous Man which contained a mix of covers and original songs (the album was produced by legendary producer Quincy Jones).
Apparently, Jones heard Jason’s version of the Eden Ahbez classic Nature Boy, made famous by Nat King Cole, and approached him with the idea to do an album together.
Jason Gould has the voice and musical ability to be successful in his own right.
The fact that he has famous parents might help open doors, but it just as often works against the children of stars – we can’t help but compare them to their parents, a comparison that is often unfair.
They say that the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, Jason certainly has the brooding looks of his father but he also has enough of the genetic inheritance from his mother to survive in the cut-throat world of pop singing.
