More clinics boosting vaccination rollout

The State’s vaccination program is expanding, allowing more eligible people to receive their first and second COVID-19 jabs.

The Department of Health said new clinics were being established, more capacity was being built into current State-run community clinics and, as a result, 10,000 more bookings a week were being added to the Roll Up For WA website.

The Department said a new clinic for the eastern suburbs of Perth would be set up at Centrepoint Midland shopping centre on 6 September, replacing the Redcliffe clinic.

“The Midland clinic has greater capacity and will be open seven days a week, and is expected to provide approximately 8,000 appointments a week,” it said.

“Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre will be home to the new Perth central business district vaccination clinic opening on 16 August and operating weekdays, providing about 6,000 appointments a week.”

The Department said it had reached an agreement with the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia to keep the Claremont clinic operational throughout the duration of the show between 25 September and 2 October.

“As part of a new trial, a walk-in program at the vaccination clinic means visitors to the Perth Royal Show who are not yet vaccinated will be able to access the clinic,” it said.

“Eligible people who want their first dose can turn up without an appointment, with thousands of spots available every day, while those who require a second dose should already have a booking and are urged to keep their booking.”

Minister for Health, Roger Cook said the second half of 2021 would be a busy time for health staff.

“We need to vaccinate as many people as possible to help keep WA safe from the Delta virus which has spread so rapidly around the world and parts of Australia,” Mr Cook said.

“WA is continuing to open up more options for people to get vaccinated as more supply comes into the State,” he said.
