The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) launched a new website on Wednesday (23 June) to provide faster updates during emergencies and improved accessibility.
VICSES said that during emergency events, page views on its website could exceed 200,000 views a month and the website was an invaluable tool for its volunteers and the public.
“But it’s also 10 years old, so we’ve built a new one,” VICSES said.
“The new site will have less text and more graphics, in line with improvements to design and technology during the decade since the last one was built,” it said.
“The website also sits on a new platform so that the pages will scale properly for your mobile device.”
VICSES said hosting the site on the latest platform meant edits could be made to the homepage instantly, “which is great in an emergency”.
The Service said updating the homepage on its previous website used to take six weeks as VICSES had to make and test all the changes before they went live.
“The website now has a new flood guide search box to help you prepare for a flood emergency,” it said.
“Entering your suburb name or postcode will point you to your local flood guide, which has also been improved to make it easier to find important information about your flood risk.”
VICSES said information in languages other than English had also been redesigned to make it easier for people of non-English speaking backgrounds to quickly find emergency information.
