Vaccination book a shot in the arm

The Department of Health has announced that the new online COVID-19 vaccination booking system is in operation.

The Department said the VaccinateWA booking system provides an online process for booking and confirming vaccination appointments at community and hospital-based vaccination clinics around the State.

In a statement the Department said that so far, more than 361,000 doses of the vaccine had been administered with the number of first doses above the national average based on the proportion of the population.

“When booking online, search results will display relevant clinics and dates based on the information entered by the user, along with the recommended vaccine and timing between doses,” the Department said.

“Only eligible Western Australians will be able to access the system.”

The Department said the launch of online bookings coincided with a new cohort of eligible people, including younger adults with specified underlying medical conditions and people with disability.

“Previously, this cohort was eligible to be vaccinated through the Commonwealth’s arrangements, but due to limited supply of the Pfizer vaccine, opportunities for people in this category to get vaccinated were fewer,” it said.

“In addition, selected clinics, starting with Claremont Showgrounds in early June, will soon start providing the Pfizer vaccine to eligible people aged under 50 on Thursdays to Sundays each week, strictly by bookings only.”

The Department said the Claremont Showgrounds clinic would administer the AstraZeneca vaccine through pre-booked appointments on Mondays to Wednesdays from 31 May.

“Vaccination appointments are still available at GP and GP Respiratory Clinics,” the Department said.
