The popular Community Garden Grants program has been officially opened for 2018.

Individuals, community groups and owners’ corporations have been invited to apply for a share of $40,000 in available funding.

Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury said community gardens had been hugely successful across Canberra and told a great story about the increasingly sustainable city.

“When we work together, sharing resources and responsibility, we all share the rewards,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“This grants program has already supported 21 projects, including a community orchard, a community garden within a multi-unit development and a garden that provides food to the disadvantaged.”

He said this was the fourth edition of the grants program and the second time that Canberrans in units and townhouses were eligible.

“Individuals, community groups and owners’ corporations can apply,” Mr Rattenbury said.

He said funding is available for projects that meet Government priority areas including healthy living, social inclusion and community engagement.

“Community gardens are enriching the lives of countless people, while contributing to our city’s climate change resilience and strengthening local communities,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“I look forward to seeing the applications that come forward this year.”

Applications for funding can be submitted until 5 August and more information is available from the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate at this PS News link.

A maximum of $10,000 is available for individual projects.
