The Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) has announced that the Queensland recipient of its 2020 National Fellow Award is Robert Setter (pictured).
Mr Setter is Chief Executive of the Public Service Commission and was Queensland President of the IPAA from 2016-to-2019.
In a statement announcing the award, the IPAA said Mr Setter’s career spanned both public and private sectors.
“He has an outstanding leadership record in corporate governance, organisational reform and leadership development and has successfully led the development and delivery of a range of ambitious Government reform initiatives,” the statement said.
It said Mr Setter had held chief and senior executive positions across the policy portfolios of education, agriculture and primary industry, and most recently public sector employment.
“He is passionate about creating pride in the Public Service and in ensuring that the organisation he leads, the Public Service Commission (PSC), is an effective steward of the Queensland Public Sector,” the Institute said.
He had been the public face of the re-established IPAA Queensland. As the inaugural IPAA Queensland President his stewardship had been instrumental to IPAA Queensland’s success to date.
The IPAA also recognised its previous Queensland recipients, James Purtill (2019 – Director-General, Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy) and Dave Stewart (2018 – Director-General, Department of the Premier and Cabinet).
Each year, the IPAA bestows the award of Fellow to individuals across Australia who have made an outstanding contribution to public service and to the IPAA, a tradition that dates back to 1983.
