Every person with a positive COVID-19 case can now expect a knock on the door from public health teams working alongside members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
Announcing the upgraded program, Premier Daniel Andrews said door knocking efforts had been ramped up yesterday (30 July), with public health teams now checking on every Victorian who had tested positive for the virus.
“The ADF has been supporting the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Case and Contact Management program by doorknocking with authorised officers (AOs) from the Department, following up positive cases who cannot be contacted by phone or who are refusing to cooperate,” Mr Andrews said.
“In the past week, 18 teams have made over 500 visits and have been incredibly effective in making sure positive cases or close contacts understand what they are required to do to safely isolate,” he said.
Mr Andrews said the visits would ensure Victorians with COVID-19 had the support they needed and understood the important obligations of isolation.
“We know that the majority of our cases are being transmitted in workplaces and it’s vital that businesses and employees work together to stop the spread of the virus,” he said.
“Rapid notification about positive cases in workplaces is critical.”
The Premier said the door knocking effort would also complement the early work done by contact tracers over the phone.
