Western Australian public transport is slowly being brought back to full services after cuts were made during the pandemic.
The Department of Transport said bus services resumed their normal timetabling, including all school services, yesterday (29 April).
“Trains will continue in the current pattern — an enhanced Saturday timetable with additional peak period services and earlier services on most lines on weekdays — until going back to normal operations on Monday, 4 May,” the Department said.
It said two COVID-19 changes would remain in place: Train station parking would still be free and late-night weekend trains would remain cancelled. The ferry would also remain on a winter timetable.
Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti said that while her Department initially prepared a staged and scaled return to normal services, it was now the view to have services running to a normal schedule as soon as possible.
“In particular, feedback from parents, and from schools directly, has been that we bring the school services back from the first day,” Ms Saffioti said.
“Working with the contractors, unions and the Public Transport Authority, we are now bringing forward the return of normal public transport services.”
She said this meant the full bus program was now running, while full train services would return to normal on 4 May.
