The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management have been presented with Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef field management program taking out the Gold Award for its work tackling threats to the world famous reef.
The program is a joint initiative of the Federal and Queensland Governments, with staff from the Queensland Department of Environment and Science working together with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
Presented annually by the ACT Division of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA), the awards aim to encourage and recognise best practice and innovation across Government in Australia.
The presentation was hosted in Canberra by the Secretary of the Treasury and ACT President of IPAA, Steven Kennedy with Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ben Morton MP handing out the awards.
The awards were presented in three categories of Sustainable Excellence in Public Sector Management – Gold, Silver and Commended – with three supplementary awards for Collaboration, people and Change Management and a Kennedy Award to recognise smaller Agencies with limited resources.
The Federal National Blood Authority picked up the Silver Award for its world-first national Immunoglobulin Governance Program, providing clinical treatment for patients using immunoglobulin products made from donated blood plasma.
Two Commendations were awarded in this category this year, one to the Northern Territory Police Fire and Emergency Services for its introduction of Aboriginal recorded voice announcements at police stations and another to NSW Government’s Sydney Local Health District for its efforts in interagency Creating Healthy Homes and Neighbourhoods coordination program.
The Kennedy Award was presented to the Tasmanian Government’s Electric Vehicle Working Group – part of the Tasmanian Climate Change Office – for supporting the uptake of electric vehicles and delivering a Statewide charging network.
Congratulating the winners, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the awards celebrated and recognised teams and organisations who successfully demonstrated public service innovation and adaptability and delivered innovative customer focussed services and inspiring others to do the same
“I honour Australia’s Public Servants,” Mr Morrison said.
“I thank you for what you do for our country every day.”
