In a tribute to the garage rock heroes from his hometown, Detroit City, Alice Cooper has released a six track EP, including covers of MC5’s Sister Anne, Suzie Quatro’s Your Mamma Won’t Like Me, and Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels Devil With A Blue Dress.
Two band members from the aforementioned bands, MC5’s Wayne Kramer and ex Detroit Wheels drummer Johnny ‘Bee’ Badanjek, joined Alice in the studio.
The EP opens with a tribute song penned by Alice, Detroit City 2020.
Cooper spoke about the release telling Oakland Press: “There’s a certain Detroit sound we’re looking for. It’s indefinable. There’s a certain amount of R&B in it. There’s a certain amount of Motown. But then you add the guitars and you add attitude and it turns into Detroit rock.”
And that pretty well sums up this EP.
It’s not pretty, sweet or subtle. It’s hard edged, in your face rock, just like the city it comes from.
The Breadcrumbs EP is a stop gap between albums (his next full-length release is due in 2020) and it coincides with his up-coming tour of Australia and NZ in February next year.
Alice Cooper is going through a rich creative period and he keeps bobbing up with all sorts of fellow travellers.
I recently reviewed his Hollywood Vampires album with Johnny Depp and Joe Perry and it wasn’t that long ago he last toured.
