The Birrigai Outdoor School near Tidbinbilla is to appoint a new Facilities Officer to live in the school and attend to its garden and grounds maintenance requirements.

Principal of Birrigai, Peter Kent said the position was a great opportunity for a driven, hardworking and flexible person who had a love of the great outdoors.

“This is an identified position and only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” Mr Kent said.

“One of the requirements for this role is to be on site at Birrigai, which is about two kilometres from the Tidbinbilla nature reserve on Tidbinbilla Road and about 14 kilometres from Gordon in the Tuggeranong Valley.”

He said the successful applicant would be living “out in nature, with all the great benefits that entails”.

The accommodation on site was a family home.

“Birrigai offers a range of outdoor activities, and cultural and environmental education programs to ACT, regional, and national preschool to Year 12 students from both the Government and non-Government education sectors,” Mr Kent said.

“It also provides services to a range of community and corporate groups. Birrigai is able to offer onsite accommodation for up to 200 people with self or fully catered options.”

He said that part of the Facilities Officer’s role was to perform basic work to maintain Birrigai’s infrastructure, including the repair and maintenance of a wide range of building and grounds infrastructure and equipment.

“You would also carry out a wide range of gardening tasks including mowing, shrub bed maintenance, planting, watering, weed control, tree surgery and cleaning of paved areas. You would be a Jack or Jill of all trades,” Mr Kent said.

Applications close on 21 August and more information, including details on how to apply for the position, can be accessed at this PS News link.
