Parramatta’s intersection of the Great Western Highway and Pitt Street has been upgraded to deliver smoother journeys through some of the more congested parts of the city.
Executive Director Sydney of Roads and Maritime Services, John Hardwick welcomed the improvements saying they would reduce traffic queues at the key intersection and help motorists access the Parramatta CBD.
“Work has included installing a new left turn lane on the Great Western Highway for traffic turning south down Pitt Street, which will reduce bottlenecks in this area,” Mr Hardwick said.
“Three northbound lanes on Pitt Street are also now open to traffic – providing an extra traffic lane on the approach to the intersection.”
He said work was also being carried out around the intersection of the Great Western Highway, Church Street and Parkes Street.
“This upgrade will include creating a second dedicated right turn lane from the Great Western Highway onto Church Street, which will keep traffic moving more quickly,” he said.
“There will also be a second dedicated right turn lane from Church.”
He said the early works would include a relocation of utilities on the north east corner of the intersection of Church and Parkes Street.
Mr Hardwick said upgrade works would continue until Monday 29 July.
