The Suburban Land Agency’s Mingle Program has hosted another astronomy evening for the residents of Gungahlin’s Moncrieff.

Held in the suburb’s Dawson Park, the program team and the Canberra Astronomical Society teamed up to showcase the stars above Gungahlin for the local residents.

Two sold out sessions were held on the one night with astronomy and astrophysics specialists on hand to excite up-and-coming scientists.

In a statement, the Agency said the Moncrieff astronomy night was a community event that brought residents together in a fun and educational way.

“It’s a great way for residents to come together and learn something new in a unique way,” it said.

“The Canberra Astronomical Society is a local society that undertakes a significant amount of astronomy outreach in our community. It works closely with the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Mount Stromlo Observatory to conduct public stargazing nights and show the wonders of the night sky.”

The Agency said that access and links to organisations that hosted telescope research groups from around the world, as well as those of the society and other Australian institutions, was “fantastic”.

“The Moncrieff community has access to this expertise in its own backyard,” it said.

“The event was successfully held for the first time in spring last year and is earmarked to be held again,” the Agency said.
