Icon Water has issued a statement responding to discolouration of the city’s water in some places, attributing it to the warmer weather.
Managing Director, Ray Hezkial said some of the company’s customers were experiencing water discolouration due to the additional demand the weather was placing in the heat.
“We are unable to predict which customers may be affected,” Mr Hezkial said, “however it is expected that any discolouration will clear as demand returns to normal.”
He said that during the warmer weather, people use more water.
“As we struggle to keep cool the extra usage can stir up naturally occurring sediment within the network.”
He said 255 million litres (255 megalitres) had been used in one day recently – more than 100 Olympic sized pools – explaining that such a level of consumption had not been experienced since last summer.
“We are expecting that increased consumption will continue until temperatures cool.”
He said that if Icon customers were concerned about the colour of their water they were welcome to contact the company’s customer relations team on 6248 3111 and select option 1.
He said more information about water discolouration could also be found on the Icon water website www.iconwater.com.au/discolouration
Mr Hezkial apologised to affected customers for any inconvenience caused by the discolouration.
