By Rama Gaind.

Directors: Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, Sony Pictures.

This sci-fi thriller from the writers of A Quiet Place and producer Sam Raimi stars Adam Driver, Ariana Greenblatt and Chloe Coleman

In 65, Driver (White Noise) plays Mills, an interstellar pilot transporting a large group of passengers through space, when a catastrophic crash kills all of his passengers but one – a young girl named Koa (played by Greenblatt).

What Mills and Koa don’t know is that the planet they have landed on is our own Earth – 65 million years ago. As they begin their epic journey toward their only means of escape, they are hunted by vicious packs of dinosaurs that stalk them across a dangerous landscape.

For Driver, the chance to play a character whose physical battle to survive mirrors his emotional battle was impossible to resist. “Every scale of filmmaking interests me and no filmmaking experience is alike. This movie, 65, particularly seemed like a unique, big swing, because it was dinosaurs, so the scale was big, but it had room for thoughtful characters and big overall themes, while being extremely entertaining.”
About her role as Koa, Greenblatt (Barbie) says she’s “a sweet, innocent, brave, curious girl.” “She grows a lot during the movie – she starts out scared, feral, cat-like, jumpy – and towards the end, she finds her courage.”

For writer-directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the “sweet spot” is the “horror, suspense, action, adventure – and to combine genre with a heartbeat – characters you really love.”

Producer Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy, Evil Dead) says what captivated him the most about 65 was the core of the film; the father-daughter type relationship between Mills and Koa. “Koa is a bold and intelligent young woman who challenges Mills. Together, the pair protect and fight for each other.”

  • 65 will screen in cinemas from 9 March
