The Royal Australian Mint has launched its annual travelling roadshow with a Roadshow Reveal event last Saturday (12 May) at its headquarters in Canberra.

Chief Executive of the Mint, Ross MacDiarmid said the Roadshow Reveal consisted of pop-up stalls where visitors engaged in a number of activities.

“These included striking a special Australia counter-stamp on to a $1 Rascals and Ratbags uncirculated coin and swapping existing coins or cash for freshly minted 2018 coins, including special commemorative coins,” Mr MacDiarmid said.

“In addition, visitors browsed a selection of current release commemorative coins, including new products released in April and May.”

He said the theme for the 2018 roadshow was Rascals and Ratbags — Australia’s Convict Era 1788–1868, which acknowledged the contributions of convicts to Australia’s history, heritage and folklore.

“The Rascals and Ratbags Roadshow Reveal completed, the tour will head to Victoria, Tasmania, NSW, Queensland and Western Australia throughout the rest of the year,” Mr MacDiarmid said.

He said the Mint was the sole producer of all of Australia’s circulating coins.
