Zero interest loans to drive EV car sales

The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has opened applications for Canberra’s motorists to access zero per cent interest loans for the purchase of zero-emission vehicles (EV).

Announced by Minister for Emissions Reduction, Shane Rattenbury, the option has been added to the Directorate’s Sustainable Household Scheme.

“The expansion will start with a small number of electric vehicle suppliers participating in the Scheme and more suppliers will be added over time,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“A range of new and used electric vehicle dealerships are already signed up as participants,” he said.

“With two years’ free registration and zero stamp duty on emission-free vehicles already in place in the ACT, this initiative makes it even easier for Canberran households to reduce their emissions and take that next step.”

Mr Rattenbury said through phase one of the Scheme, more than 2,000 households had applied to have sustainable upgrades installed in their homes, with around $20 million in loan applications received so far.

In a statement, the Directorate said in order to apply, people needed to choose an EV and request quotes from accredited suppliers, review quotes and select their vehicle and supplier, then complete the loan application.

“The supplier will arrange the finance application on your behalf with our loans’ provider Brighte,” the Directorate said.

“Once Brighte has reviewed your application, they will contact you to notify you of the outcome,” it said.
