Young Canberrans are to have the opportunity to turn their ideas into a reality with the opening of the 2020 Youth InterACT grants program.

Announced by the Minister for Children, Youth and Families, Rachel Stephen-Smith the grants are an opportunity for young people to create projects and activities that start conversations and create change.

“Young people aged 12-25 years with ideas for projects, events or activities that focus on engaging young people are encouraged to apply for the ACT Government’s $25,000 Youth InterACT grants program,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.

“These grants are an opportunity for young people to raise awareness about the issues that are important to them,” she said.

“They recognise the positive contribution young people continue to make in our community and help to unlock their potential.”

Ms Stephen-Smith said grants of up to $2,000 were available for initiatives that actively engaged young people in innovative projects and connected young people with each other and their community,

She said the projects would lead to greater social participation and inclusion.

The Youth InterACT Grants guidelines say there are many ways an activity, event or project could be facilitated including building supportive connections between community members using sport, recreation, cultural and creative activities and events; creating awareness of issues affecting young people; and increasing opportunities for young people to participate in local community events.

Ms Stephen-Smith said applications were open until 24 August.
