A special month-long Victorian Youth Week is to be held from 15 November this year in an effort to help young people across the State stay connected and showcase their creativity.
Announced by the Minister for Youth, Ros Spence, all Youth Week events are to be held online and in line with COVID-19 restrictions.
“We’ve listened carefully to young people and the youth sector, who have told us it’s so important to provide safe spaces for young people to build social connections and engage in fun activities to support their health and wellbeing,” Ms Spence said.
“Young Victorians have shown incredible resilience this year – I have no doubt the events they create will showcase their creativity and passion to the wider community,” she said.
“The health and wellbeing of young people is front of mind at the moment and Victorian Youth Week provides an opportunity for young people to check in with each other.”
Ms Spence said the month-long format recognised the significant challenges communities across Victoria had faced by providing more time for young people to redesign and adapt their events and activities to be delivered online.
She said that earlier this year, the State had announced grants of up to $2,000 for more than 100 community organisations, local Councils and schools to engage young people in the planning and delivery of diverse and inclusive events for Youth Week.
