Work is officially underway on a major redevelopment of the Albury Entertainment Centre Convention Wing.

The redevelopment is a big step for one of the region’s largest centres of culture, arts and entertainment.

Refurbishment will expand the Convention Wing and add new pre-function spaces, meeting rooms and offices.

Other spaces to be added include an upgraded theatrette, a loading dock and a multipurpose events space aimed at increasing the facility’s capacity to host larger business, cultural and tourism events.

“Upgrading the Albury Entertainment Centre Convention Wing to modern conference and exhibition standards will offer a major boost to the Border region’s visitor economy,” Minister for Agriculture and Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said.

“By doubling capacity to cater for 2000 delegates and delivering a contemporary, flexible and expanded venue, the redevelopment will position Albury to host large‑scale conferences, exhibitions and business events.”

The project is part of a commitment from the Federal Government’s Albury Wodonga Regional Projects (AWRP) initiative, a program worth $80 million.

Redevelopment costs are spread around federal, state and local governments, with $10 million coming from Canberra, $15 million coming from the State Government and $5 million from the Albury City Council.

The project intends to upgrade the convention centre itself while also bringing benefits to the city’s cultural precinct more broadly, improving the centre’s integration with QEII Square, the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA), the Library Museum and nearby retail.

“The project is a game-changer for Albury and the wider region. By transforming an ageing facility into a modern, fit-for-purpose venue and doubling our conference and event capacity, we’re positioning Albury as a leading destination for major business events, exhibitions and community gatherings,” Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said.

“Upgrading this tired infrastructure is essential to ensure we remain competitive and able to meet the expectations of today’s event organisers and visitors.”

Completion is expected in early 2028.
