A grants program for women in the ACT is to support 15 organisations, community groups and individuals in their efforts to improve the status, health and safety of local women and girls.

Minister for Women, Yvette Berry announced the Women’s Safety Grants totalling $100,000 and the Women’s Participation Grants totalling $80,000.

Ms Berry said the Women’s Safety Grants were designed to support projects aimed at reducing violence against women and their children while the Women’s Participation Grants were intended to promote the health and wellbeing of women and girls in the ACT.

“This year, the Domestic Violence Crisis Service will receive funding for the Smart Accommodation project to research the need and potential impact of supporting women in need of emergency accommodation with providing financial assistance, where safe to do so, for rental or mortgage costs,” Ms Berry said.

She said another recipient was the YWCA for the Bystander Approaches at Workplaces Project which was designed to build the capacity of small and medium scale private sector employers to promote gender equitable work environments.

Ms Berry said the Women’s Centre for Health Matters’ Taking the Lead project and Outward Bound Australia’s Women of Courage project also received grant support.

Details of all the successful grants recipients can be accessed on the Community Services website at this PS News link.
