The Minister for Women, Yvette Berry (pictured), has announced that applications were now being invited for funding initiatives aimed at improving the status and lives of women and girls in the ACT.
Ms Berry said that up to $180,000 was available under the ACT Women’s Grants Program 2017–2018 and would include initiatives focusing on the prevention of violence against women.
“Last year, some great projects received grants, including one to produce a documentary film about an ACT women’s AFL team, telling the story of women working and competing as a team, on and off the field,” Ms Berry said.
She said other funded projects included one to increase sexual health testing among young women in the ACT, and the development of an integrated service that included legal advice, financial counselling and capacity-building targeted at women experiencing severe financial stress as a result of domestic violence.
“Projects that are funded through the Women’s Grants Program make a real difference for many girls and women in our community,” Ms Berry said.
“I strongly encourage Canberra women and community organisations to apply.”
She said the ACT Women’s Grants Program provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to help make a real difference for women in the community, helping them to feel safer, more respected and to reach their full potential.
“Even small ideas can lead to significant and lasting change,” Ms Berry said.
