The Office of Sport has reported on a gathering of 90 representatives from 21 sports who came together last month to explore the progress of innovation and cultural change in women’s sport in NSW.
A feature of the Office’s Her Sport Her Way program, the gathering set up two think tanks to look at the latest research and insights into women’s sport.
The Office said the think tanks had looked at the latest research and insights into women’s sport and provided an overview of the major initiatives from the Her Sport Her Way Year One Action Plan.
It said the highlight of the sessions were presentations from a number of sports on their ground-breaking initiatives in response to the rapid increase in interest and participation in women’s sport.
It said one example was Northern NSW Football’s Kick on for Women program, a flexible football program by women for women, launched this month and run over eight weeks across 22 hubs in northern NSW.
The Office also highlighted Basketball NSW’s State-wide I’m a girl, I can do anything program and Tennis NSW’s SHEroes program, which aimed to increase female volunteer involvement in tennis by breaking down the stigma and perceived barriers associated with volunteering.
