A wind farm in Victoria generating renewable electricity for the ACT has been judged the most effective in the nation.

A new report by Windlab found the Coonooer Bridge wind farm near Bendigo was leading the nation in average power generation.

It also found the ACT-supported Hornsdale 1 wind farm was also a significantly strong performer.

Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury said Coonooer Bridge and Hornsdale 1 were among the first wind farms to be successful in the ACT’s innovative reverse auctions set up to provide large-scale wind and solar-generated electricity.

“The fact they are performing so well shows we did our due diligence in partnering with wind farms based in good locations,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“Several of our wind farms are now online, with others like Crookwell 2 and Hornsdale 2 starting to feed electricity into the grid in September and December respectively.”

He said this would bring the ACT’s renewable electricity generation to about 85 per cent.

“As well as being environmentally-friendly, the wind farms are also helping the ACT having some of the lowest electricity prices in Australia. The wind farm projects are also creating local business, research and educational opportunities,” the Minister said.
