I wonder if Dino Jag is a car lover. Dino – Ferrari, Jag – Jaguar. Maybe that’s just the classic car lover in me coming out but it does seem an unusual name.
A mixture of racy, exotic, and high-class.
I know little about Dino Jag other than that he hails from South Australia and that his previous release Can’t Keep Still (2020) was kept from reaching #1 on the AIR charts by Kylie Minogue, which suggests that he’s pretty good at what he’s doing.
When The Day Comes is a classic pop track containing all the musical and lyrical hooks that you’d expect from someone who has only just been pipped from top position by the queen of pop herself.
The song was written through a series of on-line songwriting workshops with Ryan Tedder who has an impressive list of writing credits, including working with OneRepublic; Adele; Ed Sheeran; Stevie Wonder; and Paul McCartney amongst many others.
Dino has a strong voice and When The Day Comes has interesting lyrics.
The song was written when the world was in lockdown with travel restrictions in place restricting physical contact and it speaks of hope and optimism for a better future… when the day comes that we are through all this.
As he says, “that kind of isolation creates the perfect storm for reflection.”
An important part of the meditative process is isolation, whether it be physical, internal or both.
Isolation from the normal distractions of life gives us time to reflect and reconnect with our inner, physical, and emotional self.
In Dino’s case it allowed him the time and space he needed to question some of the choices that he’d made in his life.
Those musings made their way into the song.
When The Day Comes is the quintessential pop song.
It has a soaring melody, almost luminous production, enough hooks to jag a school of mullet and uplifting lyrics.
It should be another hit for him.
