The first phase of a plan to improve weekend bus services is to start on 10 October, delivering more regular route services on Saturdays.
The Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate said the first phase would deliver an additional 210 bus services on weekends, with increased frequency on local routes on Saturdays from 6:00am to 12:00pm.
“Additional to the weekend increases, minor changes will be made to local routes and a number of the dedicated school services starting Monday 12 October,” the Directorate said.
“Some of these changes include adjusting the service connections, adding more stops and adjusting route timing to better accommodate school bell times,” it said.
“These changes are part of the continuous improvements made following the community feedback we have received.”
The Directorate said the weekend service increase was originally scheduled to begin earlier this year, in April, but was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As a result, bus driver recruitment and training were reduced and the increases to weekend services were unable to be implemented along with the broader network changes on 18 July,” it said.
“In recent months there has been significant work to recruit more bus drivers to ensure the weekend uplift can be delivered reliably.”
It said timetable information was now available, along with downloadable maps.
