The Australian War Memorial (AWM) has joined a new tourism program encouraging Australians to visit cultural attractions around the nation.

As part of its role in the new Cultural Attractions of Australia collective, the AWM has developed a premium experience, The Soul of the Nation, offering unrivalled insight and access to its collection and the personal stories behind it and has joined.

Director of the AWM, Brendan Nelson said The Soul of the Nation e xperience offered a personal tour of the Commemorative Area and a private exploration of the memorial’s unique collection of rare and beautiful letters, maps, photographs and diaries.

Dr Nelson said he was grateful to provide an opportunity for people to get closer to the stories of the men and women who served to protect Australia’s freedoms.

“Within its galleries, the Memorial tells the stories of those who serve in Australia’s defence forces and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in war, warlike operations, peacekeeping, and humanitarian operations,” Dr Nelson said.

“The Memorial’s ability to tell these stories is limited by the space with which we have to tell them,” he said.

The Soul of the Nation invites people to see more of what the Memorial has to offer and experience our military history in a more personal and intimate environment.”

Chair of Cultural Attractions of Australia, Jennifer Ganske said the group was the only organisation of its kind operating at a national level in Australia.

“The experiences launched by the members of Cultural Attractions of Australia are astounding in the quality, inventiveness, and insight they offer into Australian life and culture,” Ms Ganske said.

She said these experiences included the Adelaide Oval, the Arts Centre Melbourne, Australian Parliament House, Fremantle Prison, and more.
