The Australian War Memorial (AWM) is holding a series of community consultation sessions across the nation as it works toward finalising its Memorial Development Project plans.
Communities will have the opportunity to hear from members of the Memorial Development Project leadership team, including Executive Project Director, Wayne Hitches.
According to the Memorial, the sessions will include an overview of the project plans, which will see an increase in exhibition and function space of 5,000 square metres.
“The plans include a new southern entrance, refurbishment of the main building, a new Anzac Hall connected to the main building via a glazed link, an extension to the Bean Building and public realm works,” the AWM said.
The consultation tour began in Orange, NSW last week, followed up in Newcastle, Albury and Wagga in NSW, Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania and Darwin in the Northern Territory.
Another week of consultations is due to take place in cities and regional centres across Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia.
According to the AWM, data and feedback from all sessions will be collated and published online and submitted to the new Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment as part of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation process.
The AWM said digital resources designed to assist the community to understand and engage with the project, known as ‘Our Continuing Story’ could be sourced online.
