This week’s Walk and Ride Week has been hailed as the biggest ever, featuring events and activities under the theme Uncover Your Canberra.
Minister for Transport, Meegan Fitzharris said the Week encouraged Canberrans to discover something new about their local community by walking, riding or catching public transport.
“Recognising that a large proportion of trips people make are within their local community, we challenge all Canberrans to break the habit of reaching for the car keys and try using other modes of transport during this week, and check out some of the great events that are on,” Ms Fitzharris said.
“We’re really lucky in Canberra to have great infrastructure and a bike-riding culture that is great fun to be a part of,” she said.
“Our Bikeshare scheme is just one of the ways you can try a bike during this week.”
She said Transport Canberra had a list of activities on duringWalk and Ride Week, which began with the ACTSmart Change Your Mode for March Eco Challenge.
Included in the program which finishes Sunday (10 March) are Pedal Power’s Big Canberra Bike Ride; Cycle Works Challenge launch; and a number of National Arboretum Forest walks.
