The Western Australian Government has announced the state’s first LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan, shaped by 2400 responses garnered through extensive public consultation.
Launched to mark PrideFEST 2025, the 10-year strategy and accompanying five-year action plan outline key priority areas for building a safer, more inclusive state for LGBTIQA+ communities.
“The Cook Labor Government is proud to deliver Western Australia’s first LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan to build a safer, more inclusive WA for all,” Youth Minister Hannah Beazley said.
“This is a major milestone for inclusivity in WA and will help drive long-term, meaningful change.”
The strategy identifies four priority areas:
- Belonging, connection and visibility
- Safety, wellbeing and equity
- Systems, services and data
- Leadership, awareness and education.
The Cook Government has also announced the opening of a new grant program worth a total of $252,000 to support pilot programs, initiatives and projects that align with the strategy’s priorities.
The LGBTIQA+ Inclusions Grants Program offers two grant streams, with eligible organisations and local governments able to apply for up to $10,000. Grants of up to $25,000 are available for collaborative projects.
Extensive consultation with LGBTIQA+ individuals, organisations and communities led to the creation of the strategy, which seeks to reflect the lived experiences of LGBTIQA+ people and respond to their diverse needs.
Consultation was launched at PrideFEST last year and took place online and in person throughout the state.
The Department of Communities led the strategy development in partnership with Western Australia’s LGBTIQA+ peak body Rainbow Futures WA, the LGBTIQA+ Reference Group, and three non-government organisations: GLBTI Rights in Ageing Inc (GRAI), Living Proud and Transfolk WA.
“I want to sincerely thank everyone who had input into the strategy; it is so important to have a diverse range of voices reflected in this plan,” Ms Beazley said.
“We’re also pleased to be supporting organisations and local governments with more than $250,000 in funding to host initiatives that align with the key priorities of the strategy and encourage inclusivity.”
Grant applications are open until 3 pm on Monday, 16 February, 2026. More information can be found here.
