The Victorian Public Sector Commission (VPSC) has released its annual report, reflecting on its achievements over the past year and how VPSC supported the State’s COVID-19 pandemic response.

Public Sector Commissioner Adam Fennesy said that in addition to maintaining its core functions, VPSC advised and supported a resilient public sector in responding to the pandemic.

“We developed a workforce capability framework to identify the knowledge, skills and abilities the public sector will need in the future,” Commissioner Fennesy said.

“We restructured the State of the Public Sector in Victoria report to focus discussion on current workforce issues,” he said.

“We added two new streams to the Victorian Government graduate program to recruit a diverse mix of talent.”

Commissioner Fennesy said VPSC also broadened pre-employment screening and established an executive induction program to improve integrity.

He said the restructured State of the Public Sector in Victoria report focused on building workforce capability, strengthening senior leadership, workplace mental health and wellbeing, as well as creating a values-based culture.

“When combined with insights from the People Matter Survey, this information supports the public sector to build an inclusive, high-performing and engaged workforce,” he said.

“This will assist us as we take a data-driven approach to recalibration of the Victorian public sector in response to coronavirus (COVID-19).”

Commissioner Fennesy said the 2020 graduate program saw the addition of new streams in data analytics and program delivery.

“We face significant pressures and challenges into 2021 as we reorient the Commission to support the Victorian public sector in response to coronavirus (COVID-19),” he said.

“I am confident, building on the gains reflected in this Annual Report, that we are well positioned to take on this task,” the Commissioner said.
