The ACT Electoral Commission has released the suggestions it has received for possible electorate boundaries to apply at the next ACT Legislative Assembly election in October 2020.

Electoral Commissioner, Damian Cantwell said a total of 15 suggestions were received by the Redistribution Committee and were now available for public inspection.

“They can also be viewed at the Commission’s office on the ground floor of North Building, London Circuit, Civic Square,” Mr Cantwell said.

“Members of the public are invited to make written comments on the suggestions to the Redistribution Committee. Comments should be lodged with the Electoral Commission via the Elections ACT website or by email to [email protected] by 18 March.”

He said that after the close of the comments period, the Redistribution Committee will consider the public suggestions and comments before publishing a proposed redistribution of the ACT’s electoral boundaries in mid-2019.

“The public will then have 28 days in which to object to the proposed boundaries,” Mr Cantwell said.

The Redistribution Committee consists of the Electoral Commissioner, Damian Cantwell; Director-General of the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate, Ben Ponton; ACT Surveyor-General, Jeff Brown; and the Director of Demography at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Beidar Cho.

The public’s suggestions can be inspected on the Electoral Commission website at this PS News link.
