The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is gearing up for Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) on 20 May, the day the whole community is invited to wear orange.
VICSES said WOW Day was about recognising and celebrating the thousands of volunteers who had dedicated their time to local communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week through storm, flood, road crash rescue, and much more.
“Our members wear a safe and distinctive shade of bright orange, and we want YOU to do the same,” VICSES said.
“VICSES volunteers, family members, community groups, local residents, businesses, politicians and more are encouraged to post a message to social media – with the hashtags #ThankYouSES and #WOWDay – while wearing a touch of orange,” the Service said.
“However, that’s (not) the only thing you’ll see in orange,” it said.
“Landmarks around Victoria will be lit up in a show of thanks for VICSES volunteers.”
It said key landmarks would be lit up in bright orange in Geelong, Horsham, Wodonga and Swan Hill along with the MCG; Bolte Bridge; Sound Tunnel; AAMI Park; and Arts Centre Melbourne.
