The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has launched the latest in virtual reality adventures, releasing ParksVR’ to share the excitement of walking, kayaking and riding through the ACT’s unique environment without the likelihood of getting wet, exhausted or lost.

Unveiling ParksVR the Minister for the Environment, Mick Gentleman said the project enabled people with disability or limited mobility to explore ACT parks and reserves.

“People of all ages, ability and locations can experience walking, kayaking and riding through our unique environment,” Mr Gentleman said.

“You can take a kayak ride on the Murrumbidgee River or head out on a mountain bike adventure in the Canberra Nature Park,” he said.

“Get into the koala enclosure at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and learn about these iconic Australian animals or walk up Booroomba rocks and check out the spectacular views.”

He said the project was also looking to boost local tourism by showcasing the ACT to people who were thinking about visiting Canberra from other parts of Australia and across the globe.

“ParksVR also provides educational opportunity to engage with culturally and environmentally sensitive sites,” Mr Gentleman said.

The virtual reality experience can be accessed on the ParksVR YouTube channel at this PS News link.
