The Victorian Government is investing in the state’s agricultural sector, with support for sheep farmers slated for the 2026/2027 budget.
$1.7 million of the Victorian Budget 2026-27 will be invested in the first phase of the Bendigo Livestock Exchange roof project, bolstering a critical regional hub for the sale of lamb and sheep livestock.
Farmers across central Victoria use the Bendigo Livestock Exchange and it plays a vital role in Victorian agriculture, supporting local jobs and providing a key link in the regional supply chain.
“Bendigo is at the heart of Victoria’s agriculture sector and we are making sure it can continue to support farmers and regional jobs,” Premier and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said.
The first stage of the works will support the construction of the roof for the facility’s holding yards, improving animal welfare and protecting livestock from extreme weather, which represents a danger to sheep.
This investment means primary producers can get their livestock to the market more efficiently, boosting revenues and reducing waste.
“The Bendigo Livestock Exchange is vital to the sheep and lamb industry, and this will ensure it continues supporting farmers and regional jobs for years to come,” Minister for Agriculture Michaela Settle said.
The Victorian Government is continuing to work alongside the City of Greater Bendigo as planning progresses for future stages of upgrades.
“This upgrade is about backing Bendigo’s future – giving farmers the modern facilities they need to grow their businesses and keep our regional economy moving,” Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards said.
