The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) has had the busiest week in its history, receiving over 9,000 requests for assistance.
In a statement, VICSES said crews and partner agencies were continuing to respond to and clear outstanding requests and thanked residents for their patience.
“Our VICSES volunteers and staff have been working around the clock to assist the community, along with our partners from other emergency services,” VICSES said.
“The most common requests for assistance have been related to trees down, building damage and flooding,” it said.
VICSES said its busiest units over the weekend (12-13 June) were Lilydale, Emerald, and Maroondah.
The Service said the situation in Gippsland had eased, but the impact was still being felt and recovery was underway.
“The storms and power outages across Victoria may cause feelings of anxiety and concern in some people,” it said.
“It’s important you look after your mental health and check in on their friends and family.”
VICSES said people inspired by its response to the weather event could volunteer and be part of the organisation.
It said each VICSES volunteer received accredited, recognised training as part of their role, ranging from first aid, general rescue and chainsaw operations to community education and media training.
