Victorians are to be entertained while learning about racism with the launch of a short film and revamped resources hub from the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC).
Releasing its The Anti-Racism Race short film, the Commission said the film was set in a surrealist game show, where characters from different walks of life competed in a series of rounds to win an anti-racist championship title.
“Light-hearted with tongue-firmly-in-cheek, the film is a blend of the game show-meets-reality TV show format, where the characters are put through their paces with questions and scenarios – there’s even an actual race,” VEOHRC said.
“Characters are also interviewed throughout the progress of the game for their observations and thoughts,” it said.
“The film is aimed at encouraging increased racism reporting as well as directing Victorians to our revamped Reducing Racism hub of rights information.”
VEOHRC said the short film, produced with funding support from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, also promoted the use of its Community Reporting Tool and complaints and enquiries services.
The Commission said its Reducing Racism hub had been expanded with a suite of resources, including the Reporting Racism chatbot, translated factsheets, audio translations, There’s No Place for Racism stakeholder kit, and a services directory.
“The hub and its resources have been designed to support community members who experience racism to understand their rights, know the options available to report their experiences, and obtain help,” it said.
