Eligible immunocompromised people are now able to receive their third COVID-19 vaccine dose at the AIS Arena Mass Vaccination Clinic and other ACT Health vaccination clinics.
Announced by Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith, the rollout of additional COVID-19 vaccine doses at Territory clinics is intended to make it easier for at-risk Canberrans to get their third jab.
“We have worked hard to increase vaccination access for vulnerable people in our community,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
“Making these third doses available at our ACT Government clinics will make it easier for at-risk Canberrans to get protected faster,” she said.
“The additional primary dose is only available to a specific cohort of vulnerable Australians for whom two doses are not as effective.”
Ms Stephen-Smith said this third dose of vaccine was not classified as a booster for eligible immunocompromised people.
The Minister said people would be required to supply a letter from their treating physician as evidence when they attended their appointment.
“If you think you are eligible for a third dose, you should talk to your doctor and then call our booking line to discuss making an appointment,” she said.
“Bookings for third doses can be made through the COVID-19 vaccination booking line on (02) 5124 7700.”
Ms Stephen-Smith said third vaccine doses were also available through general practitioners and pharmacists.
She said the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation recommended people with specific immunocompromising conditions receive a third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (preferably an mRNA vaccine) two to six months after their second dose.
