A few months ago I reviewed Tones And I’s dual single, Bad Child and Can’t Be Happy All The Time, saying that trying to follow a first-up mega hit such as Dance Monkey could be seen as a burden that has sometimes broken artists who feel that they will never again find the magic formula.

Both Bad Child and Can’t Be Happy All The Time have gone on to amass over 10 million streams which is vindication in my belief that Tones And I possessed the creativity to build on her mega start.

Ur So F**kinG COol is her latest single and the TikTok video has already clocked up over 1 million views which suggests that her upward trajectory has continued relatively unaffected by the covid restrictions.

This latest single comes in three categories, ultra-clean – clean – and explicit to cater for all tastes and it was co-produced by Tones And I and Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran, Pink, The Chainsmokers).

The song’s subject matter is summed up in the title.

She adds “I wrote this song after I went to a party and everyone there thought they were the coolest thing ever and I thought ‘this is shit, I’m leaving.”

The world-wide success of Dance Monkey has opened many doors and greatly enhanced her international profile.

Tones And I has appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Voice, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Today Show.

I’m still waiting for her debut album.

So far she’s released The Kids Are Coming EP in late 2019 and her amazing commercial success to date has been built on the back of a series of well received singles, including the phenomenal Dance Monkey.

Maybe she has no intention of compiling all these singles into one package.

It’d be a shame if that’s the case because it’d be one hell of a good album if she did so.
