Over two days, we’ll move past the theory to focus on tangible implementation. Critically, we will look at how others in your industry are already forging a pathway, ensuring that safety and privacy gaps no longer leave victim-survivors exposed to avoidable harm. Crucially, the conference explores how these risks are being systematically removed through real-world application.

Presenters will share their first-mover insights, showing you how to navigate regulation and adopt the proven approaches that are working right now. Safety by Design is a call to action for leaders ready to learn from the frontrunners — recognising that proactive prevention is the most effective way to fulfil our shared responsibility to keep people safe.

The Mandarin Live: Future-Ready Public Service — Canberra

Date: 17 June
Time: 9 am — 4:50 pm
Location: Hotel Realm, Canberra & Online Livestream
Email: [email protected]

Building a future-ready public service demands more than strategic intent — it requires a fundamental commitment to stewardship, systemic integrity and the high-performance scaling of digital capability.

This summit assembles the leaders of the Australian Public Service to navigate the complexities of the federal authorising environment. As the APS moves beyond the initial implementation of the reform agenda, the focus for senior executives must shift towards the practical mastery of a professional, modern service and the long-term protection of the public interest.

Through high-level ministerial oversight, secretary-led keynotes and peer-to-peer executive panel discussions, the program examines the core priorities defining the federal service — embedding a culture of systemic integrity and proactive accountability, navigating the post-compliance landscape to scale AI innovation, and redefining workforce mobility to attract and retain elite leadership talent.

Attendees will leave with a sharper understanding of central agency priorities, practical insights into managing the human element of a flexible workforce, and the professional connections required to steward a resilient, citizen-centred APS.

Persuasive Writing Masterclass 2026 Brisbane

Date: 23 June
Time: 9 am — 4 pm
Location: In-person | Brisbane CBD
Email: [email protected]

Improve your writing in government for impact and influence. All writing should be clear, concise, and correct. Good-quality public-sector writing should also be professional, persuasive, and polished. Public-sector writing can be challenging and time-consuming. You have to contend with different audiences, rigid deadlines, and complex topics.

While the basic skills of good writing are critical, you need more to meet the demands of more involved government communication. You need to be able to present every case confidently and well, regardless of who you are writing to or what you are writing about. You must be able to use words, structure, flow, and more to deliver compelling arguments and convincing information that people will want to read.

It is about using writing to communicate complex issues clearly and with influence. This masterclass will help you to make the most of your existing skills and practise new ones. It will also offer tips and techniques to make your writing easier, faster, and more effective.

Facilitator Bev Sullivan has decades of experience in running written communication workshops for public servants at all levels and from all tiers of government. Her specialty is helping people to use (and tweak) their existing skills and experience to make writing less of a chore and deliver better results. With an extensive background in government, education and communication, she is familiar with the challenges involved in producing excellent public-sector writing.

Investigative Interviewing Masterclass

Date: 23 — 25 June
Time: 9 am — 12:30 pm
Location: Online
Email: [email protected]

Investigative interviewing is invaluable in the regulator’s toolkit, designed to gather significant volumes of admissible evidence in a fraction of the time. Despite its value, many practitioners hesitate to use the tool or inadvertently misapply it, due to the high stakes of “getting it wrong”.

This masterclass strips away the complexity of the process by introducing the science-backed PEACE model of interviewing. You will walk away with a practical set of tools tailored to your workplace, along with the confidence to apply them immediately.

Through hands-on practice, you will master powerful questioning techniques engineered to elicit a continuous flow of information from both witnesses and suspects.

Facilitator Jason Scarborough is a highly experienced and motivated specialist in compliance, regulation, and investigation, with more than two decades of experience in regulatory roles across state and local governments. He is a specialist in regulation and compliance, from the strategic level right down to the “hands-on” perspective.

During his time with the NSW Environment Protection Authority, Jason undertook and managed numerous complex and high-profile investigations into waste crime and environmental incidents. He is also a fierce advocate for skills development for regulatory officers, enabling them to confidently undertake quality regulatory work.
