The Australian National University (ANU )has signed up with the Community Services Directorate to be the major sponsor of the 2019 National Multicultural Festival Parade.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Chris Steel said having the ANU on board for the parade was an example of the collaboration between the Canberra community and the festival.
“The ANU plays an important role in our cultural and economic life, and we can expect many of the university’s international students to represent their cultures in the parade,” Mr Steel said.
“The parade will be one of the highlights of the festival weekend — it’s vivid, colourful and a great expression of multiculturalism.”
Vice-Chancellor of the ANU, Brian Schmidt said the university valued diversity and multiculturalism on its campus and in its community.
“Our students are sure to be playing a leading role in the festival,” Professor Schmidt said.
The parade will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 16 February 2019 at 4pm.
It starts at the corner of Bundaand Akuna Street near Glebe Park, progressing along London Circuit and endingup at East Row.
Mr Steel said more than 2,000 performers were expected to take part in theparade.Registrations toparticipate can be accessed on the Community Services Directorate website atthis PS News link.
