The Queensland public sector union, Together, is to celebrate School Support Staff Recognition Week (SSSRW) from 5 to 9 September.

In a statement, Together said the SSSRW was about recognising the important work School Support Staff did every day to ensure schools were run well and staff were supported to help students get the most out of their education.

“Together created SSSRW many years ago because Support Staff’s work is essential,” the union said.

“We know that without them our students don’t receive a world class education.”

Together listed some of the many functions that covered the term ‘School Support Staff’.

They included administration officers, science technicians, business managers, social workers, psychologists, IT technicians, and VET coordinators, among dozens of roles.

“Every single one of these amazing professional roles supports world class education in Queensland.” Together said.

“It’s time to remind everyone just how important the work they do is,” it said.

Together said it was once again be partnering with QSuper to celebrate the SSSRW.

“This year QSuper is again giving support staff the opportunity to members to single out that special support staff colleague at their school,” it said.

“Take a moment to share, in 25 words or less, when you have seen a school support staff member make education happen and enter them into the running to win one of seven prize packs valued at $600.”

Entries close on 25 August and can be made on the QSuper school support website at this PS News link.
