The public sector union, Together has advised its members that the sites to require proof of vaccination to enter or attend from 17 December include aged care, hospitals, prisons and disability services.
According to the Union, Government-owned galleries, museums and libraries would be open for the fully vaccinated audience only, with police enforcing the requirements.
In a statement, Together said that at its meeting with the Director-General of the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs, Deidre Mulkerin (pictured), Ms Mulkerin said she was considering a possible vaccine mandate for specific groups of frontline employees.
“This was an early discussion and a decision has not yet been made,” the Union said.
“There was no proposal as to which groups would be subject to a mandate.
“In this meeting, we reiterated our Union’s position that health and safety in the workplace is of the utmost importance, and that Union members must be consulted on the implementation of any vaccine mandate.”
Together said its members in Queensland Health and the Police Service were already subject to a vaccine mandate “and we understand that consideration is being given to similar arrangements being put in place to handle medical exemptions”.
“We have also flagged with the Department that consideration of workload and resourcing must also be a priority in these discussions,” it said.
“We understand that the Premier’s announced changes scheduled for 17 December have brought forward the need for Departments to make their decisions about vaccination.”
Together said it was frustrating that so little information was available at this stage “but we wanted to ensure that members get a heads-up so that you can be ready to have your say”.
