The Together Union has called on its members to unite on Labour Day, 1 May to celebrate the wins achieved both in Queensland and by the broader labour movement in the past.
In a statement, the union said that in 2023 it was time to stand together and make its voice heard in support of the Yes vote for the Voice to Parliament referendum.
“Join us in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as we strive towards a better future for our communities,” the union said.
“After more than 65,000 years of continuous culture, it’s time to recognise the undeniable connection to country and give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people a practical say on laws and policies that impact their lives.”
The union said there were a range of activities planned for this year’s Labour Day, including live music, food stalls, and speeches from prominent community leaders.
“Of course there will also be marches, so be sure to wear your Together t-shirts and wave your banners high,” the union said.
“Don’t miss out on this chance to catch up with your fellow Together members and show your union pride while sending a powerful message to our communities that the union movement stands with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at the upcoming referendum.”
